Creating Tools for Travel
LA Metro, RIITS and Go511 sponsored the I-5 Traffic Mitigation Project to provide Burbank Airport custom digital signage, way-finding content and real-time transportation schedule data. The solutions requested required technical and design savvy to retrofit equipment to existing structures and create a reliable system for WiFi connectivity to support content.
The Solution:

Tracking and Monitoring Root Causes of Traffic Congestion
Over the past five years, traffic flow through the residential neighborhoods adjacent to Sunset Blvd. has increased by over 40% during peak hours. The City lacked data to define the root cause of this issue and track traffic patterns through the residential streets to Sunset Blvd. This information was necessary to create meaningful traffic mitigations in affected areas.
The Solution:
Media Arts designed and implemented a unique traffic congestion study in the Sunset Corridor utilizing UAS assets and AI sorting applications. This solution provided valuable insights regarding the overall traffic flow through residential streets and tracked the volume during on-and off peak hours. In addition, the data was analyzed regarding the length of time vehicles remained in intersections, and by vehicle type. The resulting data was utilized by the City of LA to create meaningful traffic solutions for the most impacted areas. The final report issued by Media Arts included a strategic plan for implementation of congestion mitigations.

Large Format Graphic Design Project
In 2017, RIITS issued a solicitation regarding the design of large format graphic design and related tasks. The project scope included design of travel-related graphics, real-time schedules, animations and maps for use on the Metro HQ video wall and other screens.
The Solution:
Media Arts updated the Go511 style guide and created functionality for the graphics utilized on multiple display formats for the video wall and various screens located at Metro HQ. Transportation themed animations and large format graphics were designed by the Media Arts team to provide enhanced travel information.

LA Metro Division 3 Maintenance
Visual / Thermal Inspection Solution
The Operations Division of LAMTA expressed interest in obtaining an advanced, automated tool for collecting data regarding Metro assets.
The Solution:
Media Arts provided a solutions team who designed protocols for collecting asset data and a visualization tools for analysis of maintenance issues. Thermal data was collected to highlight areas of ponding water and other moisture related anomalies. The thermal data was provided with a visual overlay, in order to provide context,  track issues most accurately.  Below, all of the images and video collected from the Div. 3 UAS inspection were loaded into a visualization platform. The anomalies were tagged allowing team members to easily geolocate these issues on site. Maintenance orders can be directly exported to separate vendors. This type of data service provides the most actionable data for all stakeholders within LA Metro.
